    Breast Implants vs Fat Transfer

Are you looking for the best way to improve the appearance of your breasts? If you are, you probably heard about fat transfer and breast implants. Breast augmentation can enhance the shape of your body to help you feel more confident. If your breasts are saggy for various reasons or you have naturally small breasts, breast augmentation is a good solution.

Cosmetic surgeons can perform breast augmentation in two main ways, which are fat transfer or breast implants. The question when it comes to having breast augmentation is which option is right for you.

    Fat Transfer

Also known as fat grafting, fat transfer is an effective breast augmentation option. It involves the harvesting of excess fat from other areas of your body and the re-injection of the processed fat to your breasts. The aim is to give your breasts better shape and add volume. Fat transfer gained popularity in the 80s, primarily treating areas such as lips, cheeks, buttocks, and breasts.

The first step in this procedure involves the use of liposuction to harvest viable fat cells from the patient’s body. However, you need to have enough fat cells for liposuction to harvest a generous amount. The surgeon then treats and prepares the fat cells for re-injection into your breasts.

You need to understand that results vary from person to person due to various factors. Additionally, this breast augmentation procedure does not produce the same results as breast implants. The final results will depend on the fat cells your surgeon can successfully transfer to your breasts.

    Benefits of Fat Transfer

Many women may not want the dramatic results offered by breast implants. Fat transfer offers such women a good option to address a minor breast asymmetry. It is also ideal for those who want a smaller breast enlargement using fat harvested from their body through liposuction. Cosmetic surgeons can also use fat transfer to fine-tune the results of a breast implant for a more natural and even look. Some of the benefits of fat transfer include:

    • Shorter recovery time

    • Little or no scarring

    • Nipple and breast sensation remain intact

This procedure, however, comes with its share of disadvantages. For example, your body may reabsorb some of the fat, making it less effective than breast implants. Also, many people criticize it for its temporary effect.

    Breast Implants

Breast implants are a highly effective way to dramatically enhance the volume and size of your breasts. This is why it is the most commonly performed cosmetic procedure. Before getting gummy bear or silicone breast implants, however, you need to be at least 22 years old. For saline implants, you need to be at least 18 years of age.

    Benefits of Breast Implants

Decades’ worth of research backs up breast implants. According to most surgical and medical experts, they are safe to use. Another benefit is longevity. Results can last for up to 15 years under normal circumstances. Also, unlike fat transfer, the results are immediate.

    Disadvantages of Breast Implants

The downside is that you need to replace your breast implants, especially if they rupture or deflate. The longer you have your implants, the greater the likelihood that you need to have them replaced. Also, they may affect sensation in your nipple area and breasts.
